SMC to host open house Saturday

DOWAGIAC — Southwestern Michigan College’s open house Saturday will include two special breakout sessions, “Managing College Costs” and “SMC Student Housing.”

The open house will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Student Activity Center off Dailey Road on SMC’s Dowagiac campus.

The best way to know if a college is right is to visit its campus and learn first-hand about academic programs, campus housing and financial aid options while exploring 240 beautiful acres.

“Managing College Costs,” with tips for making the experience more affordable, will be at 10:30 a.m. “SMC Student Housing” is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.

Local sororities hosting annual chili supper Oct. 20

DOWAGIAC — The sisters of Alpha Kappa, Kappa Beta, Theta Mu, Xi Delta Mu, And Zeta Chi sororities will be hosting their 32nd annual chili supper from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, at the Dowagiac High School cafeteria.

Tickets are $7 adults and $5 for seniors and children 12 and under. Funds raised from this annual event help support multiple area nonprofit organizations.

The menu will include chili or hotdogs, cornbread, dessert and drinks.

The five Beta Sigma Phi sororities support many local programs individually, but the groups combined efforts throughout the year on events.

The chili supper has become a tradition for many families and sports fans who grab dinner in the Union High School cafeteria before heading off to the football game. This year, the Dowagiac Chieftains will take on the Paw Paw Redskins at 7 p.m. at Chris Taylor Alumni Field.

Tickets are available from any Dowagiac sorority sister and at the door the night of the supper.
