U.S. Rep. replaces Niles’ veterans destroyed war medals

U.S. Rep. Fred Upton, (R-St. Joseph) presented replacement service medals to Niles’ World War II veteran Chester Dash on Sept. 30.

Dash served in WWII as a rifleman in the U.S. Army and celebrated his 94th birthday on Aug. 1.

Dash’s original medals were destroyed in a fire years ago. The replacement medals Dash received, included the Bronze Star Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three bronze service stars, WWII Victory Medal, Combat
