In an effort to aid community members in need across southern Berrien County, the Niles District Library will partner with the Berrien Housing Resource Network to organize an event called Project Connect.

A number of agencies will be available to provide information on the assistance and programs they provide. Project Connect will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, at the Niles District Library, 620 E. Main St.

The event is a one-stop-shop for community resources for individuals and families. These services include, but are not limited to, food and housing assistance, legal aid, veteran services, DHHS services, mental health services, and more. Lunch will also be served to on site participants.

The United Way has offered to arrange the Feeding America truck to provide food for participants to take home that day.

Those wishing to contribute toward aid provided can donate non-food items in “take-home bags” for those that attend the event.

The items requested include:

• Socks (men’s, women’s, and children’s)

• Winter hats and gloves (men’s, women’s and children’s)

• Personal hygiene products (toothbrush and paste, soap, shampoo, feminine products, deodorant, diapers and wipes, etc.)

• Household paper products (toilet paper, tissues, paper towels, etc. No household cleaners or chemicals.)

In exchange for donations, BHRN is offering promotional materials to place at facilities that donate. Those interested in donating or volunteering can contact the event organizer, Sarah Skinner, at the Niles District Library. She can be reached by phone at (269) 683-8545 ext. 112 or by email at projectconnect@nileslibrary.net.
