Dowagiac Union High School crowned its new Homecoming Queen and King during the halftime ceremony of the Chieftain’s game against the Sturgis Trojans Friday night at Chris Taylor Alumni Field.

Jadelyn Zimmerman was crowned queen, while James Millin (represented by his friend, Lewis Hartsig, during the ceremony) was crowned as king. The pair were among the six finalists for the crowns, selected by their classmates during an election earlier in the week.

Zimmerman, the daughter of Tiara and Gary Zimmerman, is a 17-year-old senior, whose hobbies include running, hunting with her father, cheerleading, track, color guard and working out. She plans to join the U.S. Army after graduating, and would like to later become an ABA therapist.

Millin, the son of Jim and Kelly Millin, is also a senior at Dowagiac Union High School, whose hobbies include football, power lifting and swimming. After graduation, he plans to attend college to study computer networking and system analytics, with the goal of having a career in cyber security.

2016 co-queens Emily Dodd and Jolie Camp crowned the winners during the ceremony.

Other senior finalists included Mirian Paredes and Sunshine Gonzalez for queen and Brandon Martin and Donald Brooks for king.

Representing the other classes were Ralph Richmond III and Kyleah Hill for the freshmen, Cristian Wilson and Justice Wirick Garrelts for the sophomores, and Nico Linares and Dianna DeLong for the juniors.

The senior class was also awarded the 2017 Homecoming Spirit Stick during the ceremony, for earning the most amount of points in the various school spirit events throughout the week. Teachers selected sophomore Jossalyn Rogalski and senior Justin Lyle for displaying the most spirit throughout Homecoming Week.
