A Wakarusa couple took home the top prize on a record setting day at the Four Flags Area Apple Festival.

Bruce and Darla Bordner’s vehicle was named “best of show” at the 18th annual custom car show just north of the Apple Festival Fairgrounds Sunday afternoon.

Bruce said he has owned the blue and silver 1956 Ford F-100 truck since 1978.

He said his truck finished in the top four last year as well, winning best interior that time.

“They have flattered me twice now,” he said. “Apparently it met their expectations.”

The Bordner’s vehicle beat out more than 300 vehicles. Event organizers said the 306 registered vehicles was a new record, easily topping the previous record of 245.

Bruce said he believes his vehicle stood out because of some of the finer details, including its two toned paint scheme and blue party lighting.

“The two toned I think really makes a difference,” he said. “We really enjoy it. A lot of effort and money is invested in it. We like to go places in it. As much as I would like to put it in a trailer we like being seen in it too.”

Trophies were presented to approximately 50 of the best vehicles chosen by the judges with four being singled out for “best paint” “best engine” “best interior” and “best of show.”

Results
