As thousands of people flocked to Main Street Saturday for the Apple Festival Grande Parade, a group of Living History actors provided a blast from the past, taking Niles residents back to the 1860s in the City of Four Flags. Organized by the Niles History Center, the inaugural Niles Civil War Day celebrated Niles’ heritage with live demonstrations featuring the Southwest Michigan Civil War Round Table, a Union Army Medical portrayal, an 1860s picnic, General and Mrs. Joshua Chamberlain, a Union Army Camp and children’s games.
