Lake Michigan College music department announces fall performances

BENTON TOWNSHIP — The Lake Michigan College music department has announced its schedule of performances for the fall, 2017 semester.

All performances will be hosted in venues at The Mendel Center, which is located at the college’s Benton Township campus.

A choir concert will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, in The Hanson Theatre. Under the direction of James Kraus, attendees will enjoy a variety of choral music including works from the modern, classical, romantic, baroque, and jazz genres performed by the Lake Michigan College Concert Choir and Vocal Chamber Ensemble.

Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for seniors and students. Current LMC students may bring their student identification badges for free admission to the concert.

LMC student recitals will be at noon on the following Fridays, Nov. 3 and 17, and Dec. 1, in band and orchestra room F125. A variety of instrumental and vocal selections will be performed by students enrolled in the applied music courses. Student recitals are free and open to the public.

The music department will also present a Holiday Collage at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, in The Deckmann Studio. Those who attend will be treated to an assortment of vocal and instrumental music while enjoying specially prepared desserts, coffee and hot cocoa.

Tickets are $15 per person and include dessert and refreshments. Tickets should be ordered by Friday, Dec. 1.

The final fall semester performance will be a jazz and rock concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, in The Hanson Theatre. Under the direction of John T. Owens, students will perform the music of Count Basie, Glenn Miller, Gordon Goodwin, Bette Midler, Prince, Rhianna and much more.

Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for seniors and students. Current LMC students may bring their student identification badges for free admission to the concert.
