A Dowagiac man is in police custody, on suspicions of stealing copper wiring from an American Electric Power substation outside Baroda Monday, according to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department.

John Edward Dohm, 46, is currently being lodged in Berrien County Jail on the following charges:

• Resisting arrest

• Larceny

• Possession of burglary tools

Dohm was arrested around 2:52 a.m. Monday morning after he was caught stealing copper wire from the AEP property in Lake Township during a surveillance operation by the sheriff’s office detective bureau and road patrol, police said. The officers were staking out the location at the request of members of the Baroda/Lake Township Police Department, who had received several complaints from AEP over the last several months about stolen copper wires from the property.
