CASSOPOLIS — A Niles man was injured after he rolled off his motorcycle while trying to avoid colliding with another vehicle outside Cassopolis Sunday, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Pokagon Highway and Dailey Road in LaGrange Township at 5:23 p.m.

Mark Worthham, 56, of Niles, was driving near the intersection on his Harley Davidson when a Chevy Trailblazer, driven by 46-year-old Christian Galambos, of Hobart, Indiana, pulled into the intersection after failing to the yield the right of way to the other driver. Worthham did not have time to stop, and instead laid down his motorcycle at the intersection to avoid hitting the other vehicle.

The Niles man rolled several times as his bike continued skidding down Pokagon Highway, where it eventually came to a stop inside a nearby ditch.

Crews with LifeCare Ambulance transported Worthham to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Police believe speed was a factor in the accident, though alcohol did not play a role. Worthham was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Member of the Cass Area Fire Department, LifeCare Ambulance and the Pokagon Tribal Police assisted deputies at the scene.
