A 16-year-old Niles High School student was struck by a vehicle Tuesday morning while crossing an intersection at 14th and Eagle streets, according to the Niles Police Department.

Authorities responded to the accident at 7:17 a.m.

The student had been crossing Eagle Street toward Niles High School, 1441 Eagle St., when a 46-year-old male driving eastbound hit the teenager, police said.

The student was transported to Memorial Hospital by SMCAS ambulance for treatment of his injuries. The student’s condition is unknown at this time.

Neither speed or alcohol appears to be a factor. The Niles Police Department is continuing to investigate the accident and more information will be available at a later date.
