Authorities have confirmed that the details alleged in a reported stabbing incident Wednesday were falsified.

The woman who was hospitalized after receiving to stab lacerations spoke to police Thursday and told them that her injuries were self-inflicted.

Police responded to the incident at 3:22 p.m. Wednesday after some people called the police to say that a woman was injured at a park located at S. 15th and Silvebrook streets. The people reporting the call had been passing by the area when they saw the woman needing help near the roadway.

The woman initially told police that she had been having some car trouble and pulled her vehicle into the north side of the park. Once there, she said she got out of her car and began walking in the wood line at the edge of the park. While doing so, she said she was approached from behind by a white male subject who assaulted and cut her. The female had lacerations to her left arm and left chest area.

The female was transported to Memorial Hospital in South Bend where she was treated and later released.

During a search of the area, evidence techs and investigators located a knife in the wooded area. During additional follow up with the victim Thursday, investigators’ suspicions were confirmed when the victim admitted to falsifying the details of the incident and advised that her injuries were self-inflicted with the knife investigators located in the wooded area.

The case has been closed and will be turned over to the prosecutor and appropriate assistance agencies.
