Two arrested in connection with stabbing

DOWAGIAC — A Dowagiac man and woman were arrested Monday on suspicions of stabbing a man several times late last week, according to the Dowagiac Police Department.

Officers with the department were called to Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital around 7 p.m. Friday, after receiving word that a patient had been admitted for treatment of several stab wounds. Officers’ investigation into the incident led them to believe the assault took place on Jefferson Street near Paris Street in the city and was related to drug dealing.

The department also developed a pair of suspects in the matter, who they took into custody Monday.

The stabbing victim, also of Dowagiac, was treated and released from the hospital.

The suspects have been lodged at Cass County Jail, where they are being held on several felony assault and drug related charges. Police are withholding their identities until their arraignment in Cass County District Court.

Police investigation into stolen firearms case results into two arrests

DOWAGIAC — A two-month investigation by the Dowagiac Police Department into some stolen firearms has ended in the arrest of two individuals, according to the department.

On July 12, several of the department’s officers recovered a number of firearms while responding to a suspicious situation in the city. Officers interviewed multiple residents of Dowagiac and Van Buren County during the course their subsequent investigation into the matter, which led police to suspect the weapons were stolen from a residence in Keeler Township.

Police arrested two individuals, a 30-year-old man and 38-year-old woman, who they believed stole the firearms Monday after encountering them on State Street in the city. The suspects were found in possession of methamphetamine, marijuana and Oxycodone pills, some of which were packaged for sale.

The man and woman were lodged at Cass County Jail on charges of conspiracy to receive and conceal stolen firearms, receiving and concealing stolen firearms, and multiple controlled substance charges. Police are withholding their identities until their arraignment in Cass County District Court.
