Members of the Cass Area Artists have recently announced a new painting exhibition and classes

The organization will host a free opening reception for the painting exhibit, titled “Horizons,” to be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, at the Cass District Library reading room. The event will be open to the public, and will feature the works of the Cass Library Painting Class.

The exhibit will include contemporary pieces as well as impressionistic and cubist style paintings. Also on display will be gallery pieces located in the library that will include fabric, sculpture and wood-turning art.

The public is invited to the reception to view the artwork, visit with artists and learn more about the Cass Area Artists group. The “Horizons” exhibit will be on display until Dec. 20, 2017.

Separate classes in Cassopolis and Niles have also been announced.

A six-week series, which will be similar to a college level art class, will deal with color theory including the properties of color, optical mixing and color interaction. Both beginning and advanced artists will develop a greater sense of comfort and familiarity with all of the colors that will allow them to enhance their work, organizers said.

The color theory class will be at the Cass District Library on Mondays starting Sept. 25, and will run through Nov. 6. The class is open to teens and adults and is $12 per class. Additional information and a supplies list will be available at the Cass District Library.

The Inner Journey Healing Arts Center of Niles will sponsor a free lecture and workshop from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, to introduce their Saturday classes titled “Visual Healing; Guided Chakra Meditation and Painting.” Students will learn how the chakras regulate the flow of energy within the human body.

Cost of the six-week series is $120, and information is available from Inner Journey Healing Arts, 109 N. Third St., Niles.
