Woman dies from injuries sustained in car accident on S. 11th Street Aug. 30

A 42-year-old woman died from injuries sustained in a car accident last week, according to the Niles Police Department.

Amy Ruth Perry was among four other victims reported injured in the accident that occurred at approximately 1:49 p.m. Aug. 30. Police said Perry died from her injuries.

Perry was a passenger in a 2003 F 250 being driven by her husband. The couple’s 10-month-old child was also in the truck. The child was secured in a forward-facing child restraint seat.

The accident occurred at approximately 1:49 p.m. between the 2003 Ford F 250 and a 2013 Ford Taurus.

Police determined that the accident occurred when the 2013 Ford Taurus pulled out from Marion Street onto S. 11th Street. in the southbound lanes. The Ford Taurus appeared to be turning north when it struck the 2003 F 250 travelling South on S. 11th Street head on.

It was reported that a passenger was ejected from one of the vehicles involved. Officers from the Niles Police Department and Niles Fire Department arrived on scene and immediately gave first aid to five victims involved in the crash.

Amy Ruth Perry’s husband and child were treated and released from Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

The driver and passenger of the Ford Taurus were treated and released from Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. Both were wearing their seatbelts.

Both Amy and her husband were not wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The Niles Police Department is continuing to investigate this crash. It appears at this time that alcohol was not a factor. When the investigation is completed it will be sent to the Berrien County Prosecutors Office for review.
