Edwardsburg Business Owner Robin English will speak at the Edwardsburg Area Historical Museum in September to showcase the organization’s latest exhibit on fabric and fiber art.
English is the owner of Robin’s Nest, Quilts and More, located at 26848 West Main Street. Her hands on presentation will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, at the museum on Main Street. There is no admission charge.
Her lecture will focus on the different types of quilting such a hand and machine quilting, or a combination of the two; decorative quilting, and embellishment. Styles of quilting that she will discuss will include stippling, meandering, “in the ditch” styling, stenciling, echo (or outline) quilting, and heirloom quilting, which includes an abundance of feather stitching.
“For me, quilting is something, that, even if I don’t know the history or maker of the quilt, I know I am carrying on something that happened before me and that I am going to pass on in giving that instruction to someone else,” English said.
She has been sewing and quilting for more than 50 years, and has been in business for the past 13 years. She teaches sewing and quilting to home schooled students from both Niles and Edwardsburg.
The museum’s exhibit opened August 29 and features various forms of fabric and fiber art, including heirloom and applique quilting, latch hook, embroidery, crochet work, knitting, mola handwork, and other fabric and fiber art forms drawn either from the museum’s collection or loaned by residents.
