DOWAGIAC­ — A 43-year-old Dowagiac woman sustained severe injuries during a car accident the evening of Sept. 4, according to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department.

Police responded to the scene at 5:11 p.m. on the report of a car versus tree accident on N. Fifth Street south of Pucker Street. The woman was transported to Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Indiana by SMCAS Ambulance Personnel. It is unknown if speed or alcohol were factors in the accident.

The accident remains under investigation.
