From left, Niles High School students Blayne LeClaire and Ashley Shortman played trumpet along the St. Joseph River Monday night for an echo taps ceremony.

The event was organized by the American Legion #26 in an effort to bring people together to remember military personnel who have served their country.

Odie Stewart, the vice president for the American Legion is hoping to continue the tradition in the months to come. Stewart said he hopes to have taps played at least once a week and is awaiting approval from the Niles City Council and Niles Main Street Downtown Development Authority.

Stewart will be continuing to search for volunteers to help with the taps. Those interested in volunteering for the weekly event should it be approved may contact Stewart via email at oneodiemon@yahoo.com.
