Due to unattained completed police reports and a judge reassignment, John Lewis’ pre-exam conference has been re-scheduled.

Lewis, 49, was charged earlier this month with first-degree premeditated murder, following the fatal shooting of his wife, Carla Lewis, 55. He appeared before Judge Dennis Wiley Friday morning, when the pre-exam conference was initially scheduled to take place.

On Friday, Lewis sat beside Chief Deputy Carl Macpherson in a courtroom at the Berrien County Courthouse in St. Joseph. Several of Lewis’ friends who traveled from Niles watched Lewis closely, as they waited to hear more.

But little more was yielded.

Prosecutor Kara Wilkison requested an adjournment, until court council had obtained the full police report for evaluation.

Additionally, the court learned that Judge Donna Howard had been assigned the case. According to Macpherson, Judge Angela Pasula disqualified herself from the case earlier, which is why the Berrien County Courthouse in St. Joseph is now handling the proceedings.

Lewis is expected to have his pre-exam conference Sept. 6. His pre-exam will occur Sept. 12.
