The Niles Salvation Army is again hosting the “Back to School Backpack Giveaway” on Thursday, Aug. 24 at its offices located at 424 N 15th St., in Niles.  The hours for the giveaway will be from 9 a.m. till noon, and from 1 till 3:30 pm.

This program is available to all students in the Niles, Brandywine and Buchanan School Districts, as well as all school districts in Cass County.  There will be backpacks filled with age appropriate material for first-graders to seniors in high school.

Parents will need to bring picture identification for the parent and social security card for each student and proof of which school the student will be attending.

There will be no need for an appointment, as all parents will be seen on a walk-in basis. Those interested can come to the Niles Salvation Army during the times of the giveaway, fill out the application, and get their bags. The distribution will be on a first come, first served basis as long as supplies last. 

The Salvation Army thanked a number of donors, including WNDU-Channel 16, Shopko-Dowagiac, Walmart-Niles and the Walmart Foundation, United Federal Credit Union, Greater Niles Community Federal Credit Union and the Niles community.
