A Dowagiac man was hospitalized after his vehicle overturned multiple times while driving through Penn Township Saturday night, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies with the department were dispatched to a reported accident at the intersection of Gards Prairie Road and Allegheny Street outside Cassopolis around 8 p.m. The accident occurred when 37-year-old Donald Tweedy was driving south on Gards Prairie when he lost control of his vehicle, which overturned several times.

Crews with LifeCare Ambulance transported Tweedy to Lakeland Niles for treatment of his injuries.

Police have not determined whether or not alcohol or drug use was a factor in the crash. They do not know if Tweedy was wearing a seatbelt either.

Officers with the Michigan State Police and crews with LifeCare and Penn Township Fire Department assisted deputies at the scene.
