Ontwa Township reverses ruling on piers

ONTWA TOWNSHIP — The Ontwa Township Board of Trustees voted Monday to reverse its ruling on road-end and alley piers.

In 2012 and 2014, due to state law changes, the job of issuing permits to road-end and out land residents of lakes in the township fell to the board. As a result, the board voted last year that they would no longer issue permits as they did not want to “get involved with the pier permitted business,” according to Township Supervisor Jerry Marchetti.

However, on Aug. 14, the board changed its stance and decided to reverse the fall 2016 ruling. Marchetti said that public interest in the issue influenced the board’s decision.

A workshop meeting is set for Aug. 29. The issue is expect to be discussed again.
