A Tom Thumb Wedding — an anti-bullying event staged like a wedding will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12 at Abundant Faith Family Ministries, 833 30th St., South Bend.

The wedding is for all the participants between the ages of 3 and 18 years old. The event will include a pasta bar, popcorn bar, candy bar and drink station.

The Church will be set up like a traditional wedding would be. However, instead of wedding vows, the mock bride and groom exchange friendship vows. The entire ‘wedding party’ will learn and recite an anti-bullying pledge.

The event’s aim is to offer a great learning experience, first by offering the opportunity for participants to take a stand against bullying and to develop themselves as someone who will not become a bully or allow themselves to be bullied without reporting it.

There will be a reception immediately following the wedding.  If you need more clarification, please call

Children from Buchanan, Dowagiac, Eau Claire and Niles, as well as South Bend, Indiana will be participating.

This event is open to everyone and even encouraged to show solidarity against bullying.
