Jill Hershberger has been involved with the Cass County Fair for about 20 years. Before she was the director at the fair she was the swine superintendent.

Her husband is also involved on the board. They would make sure that anyone showing at the free grounds entertainment had a place to stay and dealt with any issues that came their way.

How did you get involved with the fair?

From past experience, the guys help with heavy equipment and I thought I could help the ladies inside the office with tickets for the gates, tickets for the shows, trophies and ribbons.

What kind of services do you do at the fair?

I’m learning the ropes right now in the office, answering phones, ticket purchases, problems anyone has.

Why do you choose to volunteer at the fair?

It’s in my blood. I’ve done it all my life. Fair is in your blood and that’s what you do.

What is volunteering there like?

Wonderful. We have a great group of people on the board and on the fair grounds. Everyone gives 100 percent.

Are there any other kinds of volunteer work that you do?

A little bit involved in my new church but mainly at the fair. It’s all year long to plan and organize and many people don’t realize that.
