Police have identified the body of the female who was murdered Friday evening as Angela Glara Cluver, 52.

Cluver was found deceased at 996 S. 14th St., Monday after a man confessed to killing her, police said. Cluver was identified by her fingerprints. Her body was in an advanced state of decomposition when found and could not be initially confirmed by police.

The cause of death is believed to be by strangulation, which should be confirmed during an autopsy later today, according to a statement from the Niles City Police.

The suspect who confessed to her killing is expected to be identified during an arraignment at 1 p.m. today at Berrien County Court in Niles. He is being held at the Niles Police Department on a charge of open murder.

At 9:15 a.m. Monday, the man walked into the lobby of the Niles Law Enforcement Complex and told the dispatcher that he had committed a crime and wanted to turn himself in.

The dispatcher, believing the subject was turning himself in on a warrant, ran the subject through the law enforcement information network but did not find any warrants for the individual.

Detectives then spoke with the subject who confessed to killing a female inside the residence at 996 S. 14th St. Officers immediately responded to the residence where they located a deceased female inside. The suspect advised that he killed the female Friday evening.

A search warrant was obtained allowing evidence technicians from Niles Police Department and Michigan State Police to enter the residence in order to collect necessary evidence of the crime.
