Fernwood hosting upcoming events

Fernwood is a place where nature blends with gardens and art to create an experience for all ages. Fernwood is made up of 105 acres on the St. Joseph River near Buchanan at 13988 Range Line Road in Niles.

Hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. Café hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and noon to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Below is a list of upcoming events, features, classes and programs taking place at Fernwood.

Wednesday, July 19 — Vinyasa flow yoga for all levels

12:15 to 1:30 p.m.

Cost: $12 ($10 for members)

Build strength and cardiovascular capacity by linking hatha yoga postures with flowing vinyasas. The class will be taught by Deirdre Guthrie, yoga teacher and well-being research professor at the University of Notre Dame. Walk-ins are welcome or people may register online.

Friday, July 21 — Fernwood Friday

5:30 to 9 p.m.

Cost: $5 (Free for WVPE and Fernwood members)

As part of the WVPE Summer Concert Series, Fernwood welcomes Danny Barber’s Jazz Cats, a local group of seasoned world class musicians who have performed alongside legends such as Frank Sinatra, Dizzy Gillespie and Natalie Cole. Food by chef Tim Carrigan, as well as beer and wine will be available for purchase.

Nature day camps — Various dates and times

Fernwood’s forests, pond, river and prairie serve as the classrooms for these popular day camps.

Art day camps — Various dates and times

An ideal complementary course to the Jon Meyer Nature Camps, Fernwood’s Roy and Ethelbel Knauer Art Camps combine the arts with natural sciences and are designed to stimulate curiosity, appreciation and knowledge of the natural world.

Enjoy a reception to welcome this exhibit featuring large oil paintings based upon water reflections from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 23 with an artist talk at 3 p.m. that day.
