Cathy Daniels successfully defended her Niles City Golf Women’s championship at Plym Park Sunday.
Daniels, who held a 10-stroke lead after the opening round on Saturday, settled for a 15-shot final advantage.
Daniels, who is 2-for-2 in city tournaments, finished with a 176.
Daniels drained a long birdie putt to complete the round.
“They are good people to play with,” Daniels said about the competition. “It has been a lot of run. I was less nervous and I knew the course a little better. Dave (her husband) and I played it a few more times, so I had a better feel for the course.”
Kim Stout finished second with a 191.
Mike Brown overcame a three-shot lead on Sunday to capture the Senior Division Championship Flight with a 146.
Brown is no stranger to the city tournament as he is a past winner in other divisions.
“This is the first time I have won the seniors,” he said. “On the second nine it was pretty much over by the second or third holes.”
After picking up a pair of birdies on the front nine, Brown had back-to-back birdies on No. 10 and No. 11, Brown was on his way to the title.
Fred Knutel and Paul Krause tied for second at 156, while Terry Churchill and first round leader Will Townsley finished tied for third at 157.
Jason Ensign birdied the final hole, while Tim Howard bogeyed to break up the deadlock atop the A Flight leaderboard Sunday afternoon.
Ensign held a two-stroke lead entering Sunday’s final round, but was tied with Howard heading to the 18th and final hole.
“I won A Flight one time about six years ago,” Ensign said. “The back nine was a lot better the front nine that is for sure.”
