ALPENA — The Howard Township 10U All-Star team captured the Michigan Cal Ripken state championships over the weekend.

Howard Township defeated host Alpena 9-4 in the title game.

The 10U All-Stars have now won four straight state championships, but, due to a lack of numbers, will not travel to Vincennes, Indiana, for the regional tournament.

Howard Township edged Macomb Clinton 7-5 to advance to the title game.

Alex Cole tripled as Howard scored twice in the second inning, while Drew Deming doubled as the all-stars added four more runs in the third inning.

Alpena cut the lead to 6-3 in the fifth inning with a pair of runs, but Howard Township responded with three runs in the top of the sixth, including a double by Cole.

The Ohio Valley Regional is scheduled to run July 19 through July 23.
