Wayne Township (June 5)

Roll call: Present — Frank Butts, Kurt Reich, Judith Fusko, James Griggs and Frank Maley; absent — none.

Treasurer’s report: The board accepted the following report from the treasurer, as follows:

• General fund balance: $370,098.43; receipts: $50,877.78; expenditures: $12,025.62; new general fund balance: $408,950.59

• Fire department fund balance (includes sinking funds): $105,745.79; receipts: $1,956.46; expenditures: $45.01; new fire department fund balance: $103,835.34

• Trust and agency accounts (property taxes, special assessment, and fire escrow) balance: $44,870.43.

Zoning ordinance violation: The board approved a motion to send a letter to a township resident informing him that he is violating the zoning ordinance by having chickens and ducks and the improper setbacks for the shed that he put in.

Payment of bills: The board approved payment of all bills, expect for the gas bill from Go-Gas. A representative from the board will speak with the company and try to get the price for the township lowered, and will make preparations to switch to Midwest Propane if necessary.

New speed limit sign: The board approved the installation of a new 25 mph speed limit sign on Randall Road for $200. Half the cost will be paid by the township while the other half will be paid by a township resident who requested the sign.

Public hearing: The board set a public hearing for the transfer of the IFE held by Premier Die Casting to Michigan Die Casting for 7:30 p.m. July 3.

New cemetery sexton: The board appointed Craig Yeager to the position of Wayne Township Cemetery sexton for the period of one year with a start date of June 1, 2017.

MTA principles of governance: The board approved a sheet listing principles of governance from the Michigan Township Association for a fair and open democratic local government.

Tax reverted properties: The board approved a motion to decline to take ownership of five tax reverted properties in the township.

High speed internet: The board approved a motion to seek a six-month contract with Michiana Supernet, and to assure the company it could continue to use the tower next to the township hall. The board also approved a motion to sign up with Midwest Energy for high speed internet for 25 MB at $49.95 per month.

Fireworks permit: The board approved a fireworks permit for Todd Bounds for July 1, 2017.
