Senior center to host open house July 22 in Buchanan

The annual Buchanan Area Senior Center open house will give people the opportunity to see and participate in some of the center’s popular programs.

The open house will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 22. There will be free tours offered by staff, board and volunteers, where visitors will be able to see what the center has to offer for seniors older than 60, and the entire community.

Representatives from local agencies will present a resource fair at the senior center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. including Caring Circle, Dial-a-Ride, Civitan, Blue Star Mothers, PACE and Senior Nutrition Services.

Members of the Buchanan-Galien Lions Club will grill a free lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. In addition, there will be exercise demonstrations presented by the center’s dance instructors from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Demonstrations will be presented in 30-minute segments and include line dancing, Hawaiian dance and Powerbeats drumming. From 2 to 4 p.m., Randy Chain will play music.

The senior center will also be selling baked goods at the Buchanan Farmers’ Market from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Flyers for the senior center’s day of activities will be available at the farmer’s market.

The Buchanan Area Senior Center is a community focal point on aging, where older adults come together for services, programs and activities that reflect their experiences and skills, respond to their diverse needs and interests, enhance their dignity, support their independence and encourage their involvement with the community and this Center.
