The Diamond Lake Triathlon is quickly approaching being sold out.

The annual event will be hosted at Park Shore Marina in Cassopolis July 22.

There are only 50 race slots remaining for the triathlon, which is scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m.

“All the roads have ben repaved and smooth, a huge improvement over last year,” says Joe Fazzini, contact for the event. “This is a USAT sanctioned sprint event and many of the local tri teams will be racing. Last year we had racers representing 17 different states and from as far away Hawaii.”

Fazzini said there are also spots open for workers.

“We need volunteers for parking lot directions, bike course safety (along with our local Cass County Sheriff’s Office), registration assistants and run course assistants.”

The Diamond Lake Triathlon benefits Alex Stschearban, a local triathlete, who suffered a cardiac arrest after competing in a triathlon. The money raised will be used to help with his medical bills during his recovery.

The sprint triathlon consists of a 500-yard swim in Diamond Lake, a 12-mile bike ride and a 3.3-mile run.

There will be a beginners clinic from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 21, during packet pick-up at Park Shore Marina.
