Village considering force main replacement

The Cassopolis Village Council heard a proposal to replace the sewer force main on Monday.
The the monthly workshop saw discussion over replacing a portion of the force main that is continually breaking.
The cost of repairs is estimated to be $314,000.
The replacement of the force main will be voted on at the council’s regular meeting July 10.
“We have every intention of moving forward with that project, and it likely will be completed by the end of the year,” Village Manager Emilie Sarratore said.
In other business:
• The Cass Area Utility Authority made an intention to breach contracts with the village of Cassopolis known at a June 19 meeting. The CAUA wants the city of Dowagiac to take over the billing portion of the sewer system despite being under contract with Cassopolis until 2030.
The council opted to hire an outside lawyer to deal with the issue.
• Planned sidewalk replacements were also discussed.
