The Niles District Library is building a community of lifelong learners who want to make Niles their lifelong home. Patrons do not need a library card to participate in any programs, and all programs are free. Monday, June 26

• 11:30 a.m.  to 1:30 p.m. — Lunchtime adult coloring

Join the library in the rotunda, or outside on the patio, weather permitting, to spend some relaxing time coloring — all materials will be provided.

• Noon to 1 p.m. — Hot Mess Monday

Each Monday, the library will have an activity that may be messy.  Dress accordingly. Meet in the Storytime Room. This week, the group will make soap.

• 1 to 6 p.m. — Messy Monday

The library will have crafts, sensory experiences and experiments to exercise the brain outside at the picnic table. This event may may be messy, so dress accordingly. For kids ages 2 to 12. This week, the group will be making bubbles.

• 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. — Chair yoga

Yogis may join Tammy Pressler on Monday afternoons from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. She will instruct on the benefits of yoga while doing poses in a sturdy chair. Learn breath techniques and rebuild balance along the way.

Tuesday, June 27

• 9:30 a.m. — Potawatomi Zoo’s Zoomobile

An Edzoocator from the Potawatomi Zoo’s Zoomobile will introduce participants to three animals. After the animal is introduced, the Edzoocator will travel around the room allowing participants to meet and touch the animal. This program is for all ages.

• 10 a.m. to noon — Special Edition: Special Guests

There will be a special, fun surprise at this week’s Special Edition.

• 10:30 to 11 a.m. — Passport Pals

Participants may join the library each Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. for a storytime tour of the world. Each week, there will be books, songs, a craft and other surprises relating to the special country of the month.

• Noon to 1 p.m. — Trail Mix Tuesday

This program is for people who love to eat. Each week, the library will have a different food-themed activity. The group will meet in the Storytime Room. This program is geared toward teens. This week, the group will be making jellybean bracelets.

• 1 to 2 p.m. — Tasty Tuesday

Children ages 0-12 are welcome to join the library for a fun, food-themed craft.  Spend time crafting a creation, then celebrate by eating it. The group will be making grape structures this week.

• 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. — Evening yoga

This class is free and appropriate for all abilities; perfect for those who have never tried yoga.

• 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. — Youth mental health first aid

Lakeland Health is offering a free two-part program designed for local parents, grandparents, siblings and guardians. There will be information on typical adolescent development and mental disorders and illnesses. This course will provide participants with information on anxiety, depression, bipolar, substance use disorders, disorders in which psychosis may occur, suicidal thought and self-harm, panic attacks, disruptive/aggressive behavior disorders (including ADD, ADHD and ODD), and eating disorders. • 6 to 7:30 p.m. — Women’s 12-step meeting

This group is dedicated to women in search of support working through the 12 steps of AA. Drop-ins are welcome.

• 6 to 6:30 p.m. — Chips and Chapters

Every Tuesday, Ms. Tara will read aloud from a chapter book, while participants eat chips and follow along.

• 6:30 p.m. — Pajama storytime

This evening storytime is for the entire family. The group will be reading stories on a theme, performing musical numbers and making a craft to end the time. Feel free to wear your pajamas.

• 6:30 to 8 p.m. — Olive Branch book club

This group is for people who would like to have a drink, mingle and talk about a book. To register and pick up a copy of the month’s book, visit the information desk, or call (269) 683-8545 ext. 112. Olive Branch meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at The Brass Eye Cocktail Lounge, 205 N. Second St., Niles. This month’s book is Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett.

Wednesday, June 28

• Multiple times – Storytime day

Squealers (birth to 18 months) at 9:30 a.m., Squeakers (18 months to 3 years) at 10 a.m., Squigglers (18 months to 5 years) at 10:30 a.m., Storytime (kids ages 3 and older) at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

• Noon to 1 p.m. — Wednesday Crafternoon

The group will have are Mod Podge journals ready for teens this Wednesday.Grab a free lunch to eat while you craft.  Meet at Patti’s Place.

• 4 to 7 p.m. — Coupon exchange

Couponers may join Ann in the youth services area for a weekly coupon exchange. This program is open to teens and adults.

Thursday, June 29

• 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. -— The Connection

The Connection provides a centralized intake that works together with the consumer to rapidly re-house those who are homeless. • 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. — Storytime

For kids ages 3 and older. Storytime features three books, a color song, and music and movement. The program will end with a hand stamp, coloring sheet and a craft.

• 1 to 4:30 p.m. — Mahjong

Volunteers are available to teach newbies how to play. Other board games will also be available.

• 6 to 7:30 p.m. — Teen Time

Teens are invited to join the library from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursdays for a night dedicated to them. There will be games, snacks, books and a place to study in the teen department. 

Friday, June 30

• 10 a.m. to noon TOPS meeting

Take Off Pounds Sensibly is a nonprofit, noncommercial, weight-loss support group and wellness education organization. TOPS offers tools and programs for healthy living and weight management, with group fellowship and recognition. Established in 1948 to champion weight-loss support and success, TOPS has helped millions of people live healthier lives. New members are welcome.

• 10:30 a.m. — Family Feature Friday

Every Friday this summer, the library will be showing classic, family friendly films. Meet in the storytime room to watch this week’s movie, “The Parent Trap,” starring Hayley Mills.

• Noon- Teen Features

This week’s movie will be, “Ghostbusters.” Meet in the storytime room.

• 3 to 5 p.m. — Twisted Stitches

Participants may enjoy a cup of coffee or tea and chat while working on a yarn or sewing project. Rookies are welcome. A teacher and a few loaner tools will be available to get newbies started.

Saturday, July 1

• 10 a.m. to noon — Sensory Saturday

Each week, the library will have a different sensory bin out for little fingers to explore. Participants may join the group from 10 a.m. to noon every Saturday in the youth services department for a sensational experience.

• 10 a.m. to noon — Chess free play

This group meets twice monthly to play, from 10 a.m. to noon on the first and third Saturday.  All ages and abilities are welcome. Teachers will be avaible to instruct in the game of chess. Meet in the youth services department for chess.

• 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. — Treeclimbers genealogy group

Budding genealogists are invited to share their findings and support others in their own family quest. Everyone is welcome, regardless of experience.

• 3 to 4 p.m. — Teen Green Thumbs

Teen Green Thumbs is the teen garden club at the library. Each month, the group will have a craft, food and a garden-themed learning opportunity.  This month, the group will discuss and put together glass jar terrariums. Meet at Patti’s Place.

The Niles District Library will be closed on Monday, July 3, and Tuesday, July 4, in recognition of the Independence Day holiday.
