Two Dowagiac residents were injured following a traffic accident on Division Street Monday morning, according to the Dowagiac Police Department.
Matthew Bailey, 20, and Sandra McDuffie, 45, were taken to Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac that morning for treatment of minor, non-life threatening injuries. Officers expect them to be treated and released.
Firefighters with the Dowagiac Fire Department were dispatched to the scene of a reported accident, on Division Street near Riverside Drive, at around 9:29 a.m.
Police who arrived at the scene learned the accident occurred when a Chevy pickup truck, driven by Bailey, went to turn from Riverside Drive onto Division Street when he collided with a Ford Taurus driven by McDuffie, who was driving east. According to police, Bailey had failed to see McDuffie’s vehicle before making his turn.
This crash remains under investigation. Alcohol or drugs are not a factor in this crash, and both drivers were wearing their seat belts.
