Volinia Township – A 6-year-old boy was killed in a farming accident Wednesday afternoon, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to the accident in the 19000 block of Dewey Lake Street in Volinia Township at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Landscape work was reportedly being done on the property when the child, with two other children, rode a short distance down the driveway to another location where a skid steer loader was being used to landscape around trees in the yard. The child fell from the bucket of the skid steer and was partially run over by the equipment.

The child was taken to Borgess/Lee Memorial Hospital where he later died from his injures.

Names of those involved in that accident are being withheld at this time.
