Police remove body from Morrison Channel in St. Joseph Saturday

ST. JOSEPH — A deceased person was found floating in the water of Morrison Channel near the area of Pier 33 Marina in St. Joseph Saturday morning.

Berrien County authorities dispatched a water rescue at 9:35 a.m. for a subject floating in the water.

The subject was found to be deceased and appeared to have been in the water for an extended period of time. The body was secured and recovered by the U.S. Coast Guard.

The body has not been identified.  An autopsy will be conducted Monday at Spectrum Hospital.

At this time authorities say there does not appear to be any sign of foul play.

Authorities who responded to the incident include the St. Joseph Department of Public Safety, Berrien County Sherriff’s Department, Berrien County Marine Patrol, United States Coast Guard and Medic 1.

More information will be released at a later date after the autopsy is completed.
