Annual celebration needs community support for lift off

The Four Flags Chamber of Commerce is seeking help from the community to get this year’s annual fireworks celebration off the ground.

The show will feature more than 20 minutes of a variety of fireworks and a grand finale.  The fireworks display will take place at about 9:45 p.m. Monday, July 3, at the Apple Festival grounds, 1740 Lake St. The fireworks will be shot off from the Jerry Tyler Memorial Airport, 2018 Lake St.

Gina Barger, the chamber’s
membership coordinator, encouraged members of the community to donate any amount they can to support the Niles tradition.

“This show has been going on for 30 plus years,” Barger said. “It is a really great family event.”

The fireworks display is supported solely by donations. So far, the chamber has received between $5,000 and $6,000, including a $2,500 donation from the city of Niles earlier this week.

“It is strictly through the generous contributions from businesses and citizens within our local community that we can continue to provide a quality Independence Day celebration,” Barger said.

Those who attend the show this year will be required to contribute a $5 donation at the gate. Those who give $5 will receive a Niles sticker.

The chamber has also established a Go Fund Me page at gofundme.com/nilesfamilyfireworksspectacular for those interested in donating. Business sponsors can make a contribution through Square Space at squareup.com/store/four-flags-area-chamber-of-commerce.

“When you support the fireworks fund, you are supporting an event that honors the sacrifices veterans have made and the freedom enjoyed by all Americans,” Barger said.

During the event, the Apple Festival board will sell hot dogs, pop and water for a $1 each. The proceeds from the snacks will be put toward Apple Festival Events.

New to this show this year is a VIP section, where those who sponsor the show will get a special place to park and watch the show from. Businesses interested in sponsoring can give any amount that they can. The chamber also offers businesses the chance to support the event through purchasing a letter, logo or reuse sign. Those who donate up to $200 will see their business logo on a banner.

The fireworks are provided by F and F  All Seasons, in Niles. The company is known for providing several fireworks that create uniquely shaped fireworks, like those in the shape of a heart or smiley face. The show typically draws between 8,000 to 12,000 people to watch.

“They always have the best grand finale,” Barger said.
