NILES — Car Seats in South Central Michigan is hosting a free car seat check event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 24, at Walmart, 2107 S. 11th St., Niles. A truck load of free car seats and booster seats will also be available on a first come first serve basis.

Certified child passenger safety technicians will be available to ensure that children are in the correct seat and helping parents and caregivers install seats.

The seats are made available through a Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning grant. Donations will not be accepted for the seats.

Those interested must have a child present and in a motor vehicle to receive a new seat, unless the mother is within one month of her due date.

This is not an exchange program. If it is determined that a child needs a new seat, the seat they arrive in will only be taken and destroyed if it is found to be an unsafe seat for any child to use.

No financial documents or birth certificates are required.
