Lancers edge Eddies 2-1 for regional crown

Despite having to play 10 innings in the semifinals, Division 2 regional champion Lakeshore had enough pitching left to get past host Edwardsburg in the title game 2-1 Saturday.
The Lancers (33-6) now advance to the quarterfinals on Tuesday at Davenport University in Grand Rapids where they will face Allendale at 5 p.m.
Lakeshore advanced to the finals with a 4-3 victory over Wolverine Conference co-champion Vicksburg in the first semifinal.
Edwardsburg, which shared the Wolverine title with the Bulldogs, edged Battle Creek Harper Creek 6-3 in the second semifinal.
In the championship game, the Lancers got on the board with a run in the bottom of the first as Tyler Mojsiejenko doubled home Ryan Remus.
The Eddies (32-6) tied the game at 1-1 with a run in the fourth as Nick Bradley doubled and scored on a throwing error.
The game was not tied for long as Lakeshore scored in the bottom half of the fourth when freshman Oli Carmody singled home Max Gaishin, who had doubled.
Gaishin held Edwardsburg to five hits. Jake Robinson was 2-for-2, while Joe Hess was 2-for-3 with a double.
Joe Raab suffered his first loss of the season as he also gave up five hits. Raab struck out five and walked three.
In the semifinals, the Eddies built up a 6-0 lead on Harper Creek before a sixth inning rally by the Beavers scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Zach Priebe pitched five and two-third innings to pick up the victory for the Eddies. Hunter Bedell pitched an inning to earn the save.
Offensively, Edwardsburg had 13 hits against a pair of Harper Creek pitchers.
Devin Pulling was 3-for-4 with three RBIs, while Matt Hepler, Robinson and Austin Hurt all had two hits.
