Buchanan Area Senior Library to host seniors’ art exhibit

The library at the Buchanan Area Senior Center has a new look.

The recent makeover includes all new furniture and bookcases, and features a rotating art exhibit of area seniors’ artwork.

The public is invited to check out the new look and exhibit during an artist reception for the first exhibitor, Linda Canfield, from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, June 9.

Canfield’s exhibit is a collection of photographs entitled, “Fences, Gates, and Doors,” and will be on exhibit at the center through mid-August.

“The photographs beg the question — do fences, gates, and doors keep people in, keep people out, or simply welcome?” Canfield said.

The pictures were captured during her travels across the country.

A fireplace and the comfortable new furniture aim to make the library a welcome respite for visitors.

The new furniture replaces a mix of furniture donated over the years, and was purchased with proceeds from the center’s Bakeless Bake Sale donations in 2016 and 2017.

The senior center would like to thank all who participated in one of its largest annual fundraisers for their generous support of giving, as it is the community who made this possible.

The Senior Center Library seeks to offer more than books and a quiet place to read. Those who visit can find an integral part of the center, providing both a sanctuary and a gathering place for seniors.

Seniors play card watch TV, work on the computer, or attend a support group.

The Senior Center library has many books and books on CD to loan, as well as a variety of magazines that have been donated to the center.

A book club gathers in the library at 10:30 am on the third Thursday of each month for book discussions.

Cable TV and internet costs can be prohibitive for some seniors, so the library offers cable access on a large screen TV, or a DVD from the collection of donated titles on the shelf. A WiFi connection allows seniors to check email or get on the internet using either their device or the public-access computer in the library.

The library at the Buchanan Area Senior Center seeks to provide many resources to area seniors, and the addition of art exhibits and new furniture will enhance its appeal.

The public is invited to stop in and see the library.
