Niles’ Ruelle to play hockey for Trine University

Niles senior Jacob Ruelle will be continuing his academic and athletic career at Trine University.

Ruelle, who played four years of tennis and one year of golf for the Vikings, also played four years of hockey at South Bend Riley Hockey Club.

He also played two years for Team Indiana and two years for Team Michiana. He was a member of the Niles “N” Club for three years and a member of the Niles Key Club for three years.

Ruelle was team captain for Niles tennis his senior year, team captain for Team Michiana his senior year, Team Indiana his senior year and team captain his junior and senior years for Riley.

Among his awards are No. 3 doubles champion in 2013 at the SMAC tournament, SMAC team champions in 2013, academic all-state in tennis in 2013 and a scholar athlete for all four years of high school.

In hockey, he was all-conference his junior and senior seasons in the Michiana High School Hockey League, an academic all-state for four years and a member of the city tournament runner-up squad in 2013 and 2015.

Ruelle was a member of the Indiana state hockey championship team in Class 2A in 2014-15 and academic all-state in the Indiana State High School Hockey League.

Ruelle, who has a 4.05 GPA, will major in mechanical engineering.
