Free community overdose prevention training offered

The Southwest Michigan Families Against Narcotics chapter and the Voice Change Hope Alliance is sponsoring a free prescription opioid and heroin overdose prevention education program from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 15 at the Tyron School Community Center, 910 East John Beers Road, St. Joseph.

Those that complete the training will receive a free naloxone kit. Nalaxone is the antidote for an opiate overdose that can help reverse the effects of an overdose that can result in death. 

Overdose prevention and detection training is provided to any teenager or adult.  Naloxone will only be distributed to a person 18 years and older who complete the 90-minute training.  Teenagers 14 years and older are encouraged to attend the training to help identify the signs of overdose in order to call for help.
