SMC band opens annual DDA concert series

More than 175 music enthusiasts gathered for the opening night of the Beckwith Park Summer Concert Series under sunny skies Thursday evening.
Hometown favorite, the Southwestern Michigan College Brass Band, under the direction of Dr. Jonathan Korzun, kicked off the performance schedule with such favorites as the “Star Spangled Banner,” “Amazing Grace,” “Beer Barrel Polka” and of recent fame, “Happy.”
Hosted by the Dowagiac Downtown Development Authority, performances have been underwritten this year by Chemical Bank, Honor Credit Union and Huntington Bank.
Next up on the DDA’s weekly concert lineup is Mike Struwin, who performs Thursday.
