Athlete Showcase: Dowagiac’s Brenden Dudley

Brenden Dudley is a junior on the Dowagiac baseball team.

 

What has been one of your greatest accomplishments as an athlete?

BD: Hitting .425 as a sophomore.

 

What has been one of your biggest disappointments as an athlete?

BD: Getting first-team all-conference as a sophomore, but second-team as a junior.

 

What has been a hardship in your life?

BD: Watching my brother go through what he has to go through with not being able to walk.

 

Who is a “hero” in your life and why?

BD: My brother, because he can’t do what most can and he doesn’t let that get in his way of having a good time.

When are you the most nervous while you are competing?

BD: On the ride to the game.

 

Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.

BD: I was taking a ground ball in between an inning and I went to throw it and my spike got caught in the loop of my cleat and I fell on my face.

 

How do you tend to work out/train when by yourself?

BD: I go to the field or in my back yard in the cage and hit off the tee.

 

What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?

BD: Golf.

 

Why are sports an important part of a high school experience?

BD: It keeps me in shape and it keeps kids grades up.

 

How would you give away $50,000?

BD: I would donate it to the Duchennes Muscular Dystrophy Association.

 

If you could be the head coach of a team for a year, what team would you choose?

BD: Chicago Cubs.

 

If I did not play sports, I would…?

BD: Improve academically.

 

What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?

BD: Keep a good attitude.

 

If you could change one rule about your sport, what would it be?

BD: The neighborhood rule would be back in effect.

 

What is the best compliment you have ever received?

BD: First-team all-conference last year.

 

What was the scariest thing you have had to do? Are you glad you did it?

BD: The ripcord at Michigan Adventure. Yes, I am glad I did it.

 

What was the last thing you saw someone do that really impressed you?

BD: Coach (Theron) Bagero hitting the fence of Brandon Felthouse at practice Wednesday.

 

What is your favorite hobby? Why?

BD: Golf. I am not good and do not intend to be, so it is funny.
