ST. JOSEPH — On May 20, more than 1,200 registrants, 50 volunteers and 58 sponsors participated in the 13th Annual Run, Walk, and Rock, presented by the McLoughlin Family Foundation for Lory’s Place, the grief healing and education center of Caring Circle, a Lakeland Health Affiliate.

Through donations and participation, this year’s event set a new record, raising more than $63,000 to support unique bereavement programs and services for all who are grieving, regardless of their financial circumstances, organizers said. Last year, Lory’s Place provided bereavement services to more than 3,000 children and adults, including bereavement programs in more than 40 area schools.

“We are so grateful to everyone who came out to support this event,” said Lisa Bartoszek, director of Lory’s Place. “Lory’s Place is fully funded by the generous donations and gifts from our community, and all proceeds from Run, Walk, and Rock help us continue to meet the needs of grieving children, adults and families.”

In the 5K run portion of the event, William Cadwell, of South Haven, took overall top honors with a time of 16:28. For the overall women’s division of the 5K run, Erin Moore, of Niles, was in first place with a time of 20:50. In the 5K walk event, Steve Winkler, of St. Joseph, won overall top honors with a time of 34:50, and Nada Kramp, of Stevensville, came in first place for the women at 35:09.

Next year’s race is scheduled for Saturday, May 19, 2018.
