Parchment wasted little time ending the Dowagiac soccer season.

The visiting Panthers scored 52 seconds into the match and went on to blank the Chieftains 8-0 in a match that was ended early in the second half by the mercy rule.

Regan Berg scored six of the eight Panthers’ goals, while Emily Brittain had a pair of goals and six assists. Berg also had an assist in the match.

Dowagiac goalkeeper Grace Younger came up with 11 saves in the contest.

“The girls came out extremely flat tonight,” said Dowagiac first-year coach Chad Davis. “I thought we did a better job in the second half of finding ourselves and playing chieftain soccer, It was a tough season, but I thought the girls did a great job of never giving up and handling adversity well.”

The Panthers will host Buchanan today in the district semifinals.

Dowagiac is the host of the Division 3 district championship match, which is set for 10 a.m. Saturday.
