Athlete Showcase: Niles’ Dustin Anders

Dustin Anders is a senior on the Niles baseball team.

 

What has been one of your greatest accomplishments as an athlete?

DA: Getting moved up to varsity my sophomore yeaer.

 

What has been one of your biggest disappointments as an athlete?

DA: Not making JV my freshman year.

 

What has been a hardship in your life?

DA: Losing my grandfather to cancer.

 

Who is a “hero” in your life and why?

DA: My dad is my hero. He has taught me so much. He has always been there to work with me on whatever I wanted.

 

When are you the most nervous while you are competing?

DA: I’m always nervous at first, but after a few minutes of playing all the nerves go away.

 

Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.

DA: Getting somewhat dunked on against Benton Harbor.

 

How do you tend to work out/train when by yourself?

DA: I don’t work out by myself very well. I work better when training with others.

 

What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?

DA: I have always wanted to try lacrosse.

Why are sports an important part of a high school experience?

DA: I think they are important because it helps make a lot of friends and it really teaches you to balance out your life.

 

How would you give away $50,000?

DA: I would give it away to charity, especially one that deal with rebuilding homes.

 

If you could be the head coach of a team for a year, what team would you choose?

DA: I would probably coach the Tigers, because that is my favorite team.

 

If I did not play sports, I would…?

DA: Probably would spend a lot of time with friends and family. Try to enjoy being young.

 

What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?

DA: Staying motivated during the off season.

 

If you could change one rule about your sport, what would it be?

DA: Being able to truck someone who is in your base path and they are not supposed to be there.

 

What is the best compliment you have ever received?

DA: The best compliment is that my parents are proud of me.

What was the scariest thing you have had to do? Are you glad you did it?

DA: Getting moved up to varsity and pitching my sophomore year.

 

What was the last thing you saw someone do that really impressed you?

DA: I saw someone dunk really cool.

 

What is your favorite hobby? Why?

DA: My favorite hobby is the sports I play throughout the year. I love playing and I love how they keep me busy so I am not off getting in trouble.
