The Edwardsburg Post Office’s “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive held May 13 collected 3,100 pounds of food, according to Denise Smitley of the Edwardsburg Food Pantry.
“Thank you Edwardsburg,” Smitley said. “The May 13, 2017 U.S. Post Office Stamp Out Hunger program was the most successful we have had in recent years. An estimated 3,100-pounds of food was donated to Edwardsburg Food Pantry. This is double the amount of food that was donated last year.
“The Edwardsburg community has continued to show their passion of giving to our neighbors in need. The food and economic donations will help EFP continue to support our community and is greatly appreciated. The food drive would not be possible without the postal carriers’ help. They made sacrifices. There were many more items to haul, making it a longer and more difficult day. ”
Smitley said that when they spoke with carriers that morning, they were happy to assist and thankful for the good weather.
“The Edwardsburg Food Pantry thanks all of them for their special commitment to this project,” she said. “The Edwardsburg community has always been generous to those in need, and this is just another example of the goodness of Edwardsburg.”
