Painting classes begin June 16

Local artist Sharron Ott-Bartemio will teach painting classes for adults or young adults.

The Cass District Library and the Cass Area Artists have joined together with Ott-Bartemio to provide the painting classes, which follow a popular drawing series that ended in May.

The classes will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday evenings from June 16 through July 29., at the Cass District Library on Michigan 60 in Cassopolis. No registration is necessary, because the format is “drop-in,” as not everyone can attend every session.

A supplies and information sheet is available at the Cass Library. The cost for each session is $12 per class, payable at the class session. Some students work on one project per class, while others continue a project from week to week.

Next month, the classes come when the hustle of major holidays have passed, tax season is over and the joy of spring encourages creative spirits, organizers say.

The classes will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. to avoid many conflicts with work, school and supper.

Painting classes taught by a professional artist will provide structured techniques to those who benefit from structure, while more advanced students who prefer to work at their own speed and skill level will benefit from the group setting and teachers guidance.

Mixed media will be used, with water soluble media such as acrylics emphasizing a non-toxic goal. Many of the techniques presented, and the fundamentals needed to produce a work of art also apply to other media such as oil painting, gauche, watercolor and drawing.

Ott-Bartemio has taught in Illinois and Indiana and shows in several art galleries. Her website is papillondesign.biz and email address is sharron@papilliondesign.biz.
