Edwardsburg wins three out of four relays

STURGIS — The Edwardsburg girls track team dominated the relay events, which led to a third place overall finish at the Division 2 Regional at Sturgis High School last Friday.

The Eddies won the 800-, 400- and 1,600-meter relays on their way to finishing with 68 points. Wolverine Conference foe Otsego was the regional champion with 97 points.

Jocelyn Hack and Kaitlyn Zarycki were members of all three winning relay teams, while Abbi Nugent and Alexa Markell were double winners as members of the 800- and 400-meter relays.

Natalie Longo and Cameron Cleveland were the other members of the 1,600-meter relay.

Edwardsburg posted a 52.6 in the 400-meters, a 1:49.64 in the 800-meters and 4:16.51 in the 1,600-meters.

Individually, Hack was second in the 200-meters (28.6), Cleveland was third in the 800-meters (2:23.66) and Zarycki was fourth in the long jump (15-6.75).

For the second time in three years, the Niles boys track team captured the Division 2 regional championship at Sturgis Friday night.

Edwardsburg finished 13th with 25.7 points.

For the Edwardsburg boys team, Jack Knoll tied for second in the high jump with a leap of 5-7, while he was also sixth in the 110-meter high hurdles and sixth in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles.

Bryce Williams finished second in the pole vault with a height of 12-4. Quinton Davis finished fourth in the 100-meters with a time of 11.93.

The Eddies will now head to the Division 2 state track meet, which will be held June 3 at Zeeland High School.

Knoll and Williams will compete for the boys, while all three relays, along with Cleveland and Hack in the individual events will compete for the Edwardsburg girls team.
