Edwardsburg baseball, softball teams sweep Buchanan

The Edwardsburg baseball team swept a non-league doubleheader from visiting Buchanan to improve to 27-5 Tuesday afternoon.
The Eddies, who need a sweep of Otsego to win a share of its third straight Wolverine Conference championship, defeated the Bucks 10-1 and 2-1.
A six-run fourth inning broke open a close first game for Edwardsburg, which finished with 12 hits.
Matt Hepler had three of those hits, including a double. Caden Goggins, Devin Pulling, Chris Griffin and Chase Tarwacki all had two hits for the Eddies.
Joe Hess and Pulling both doubled, while Griffin was credited with four RBIs.
Kyle Leazenby doubled for the Bucks, who fall to 11-10-1 on the year.
In the nightcap, Buchanan outhit the Eddies 6-4, but a pair of runs in the fourth inning was enough for Edwardsburg to pull out the victory.
Goggins was 1-for-2 and drove in a run for the Eddies.
Jonah Sibley picked up the victory in the first game, while Brad VanOverberghe took the loss for the Bucks.
A.J. Rosebush was the winner for the Eddies in the nightcap. Jacob Hoover took the loss for Buchanan.

Edwardsburg softball
A six-run first inning in the opening game propelled host Edwardsburg to a sweep of Buchanan in non-conference softball action Tuesday.
The Eddies went on to win the first game 8-2 before shutting out the Bucks in the nightcap, 2-0.
The sweep leaves Edwardsburg with a 27-7 overall record heading into Friday’s Wolverine Conference doubleheader with Otsego.
Buchanan falls to 18-10.
In the first game, Hannah Mitchell homered and singled for the Eddies, who also got three hits, including a double from Hannah Shoupe and two hits from Courtney Ryker.
Allie Strycker went the distance as she allowed six hits with seven strikeouts.
In the second game, Ashley Pion tossed a two-hitter with five strikeouts and no walks.
The Eddies finished with eight hits, including doubles by Strycker and Pion. Strycker finished with three hits, while Layne Stinnett had two.
